380 – Dealing with community drama – part 4

Paul and Jocelyn continue to address some intentional community 3.0 issues. They start off by addressing the claim that they were locking a “historically” public road, which was proven by local authorities not to be public. They talk about the issues with Allerton Abbey, which were fixed in the summer. They talk about the bounty payments, and feast nights. They speculate on what might have happened with the Ants. Paul and Jocelyn then talk about some other critisms of Wheaton Labs: the Fouch video and the Puddle people. Jocelyn mentions the stress and disappointment that the Ant issues and criticisms created over the last few months. Paul and Jocelyn finish the podcast on a positive note talking about the way forward. They mention the peasant PDC that will occur in May 2018 (more details to come).

379 – Dealing with community drama – part 3

Paul and Jocelyn continue to address some intentional community 3.0 issues. They start off with the last 2 concerns the Ants formulated: written rental agreement and not being allowed to commute to a job. They then move on to addressing criticism from 47: the local currency (fysh) being obscure, poop management, the lock at the Lab’s gate being sticky, someone being kicked out for not listening to podcast. Another criticism was that Paul did not go on the lab often and never after dark, and that Paul doesn’t work on projects himself.

378 – Dealing with community drama – part 2

Paul and Jocelyn continue to address some intentional community 3.0 issues. They start with a discussion on how Paul can come across as an asshole. They then move on to discussing the criticism raised by a former ant who qualified the issues as “a modern feudal slumlord clashes with his peasants.” Paul admits that he is not sure of what happened from early May where things seemed fine until the hostility started. Paul and Jocelyn talk about the perseived issue of improving someone else’s property. They also talk about the ban of cigarette and drugs. They address the first concern from the former ant that they are too secretive aka culty. They explain the issues they had with many locals and people online pledging to make their life miserable.

351 – Update from Wheaton Lab and Listener Questions Part 2

Paul, Jocelyn and Fred continue their discussion with Paul’s announcement of Ant village 2017 pricing. They then move on to more listener questions. The first one pertains to what ratio of nitrogen fixers Paul recommends for planting. They talk about the issue of chopped and dropped branches breaking down in a dry climate and they mention their experience at base camp with the enormous berm, mulching and the nitrogen fixers they have in it. They talk about the electric chainsaws and which one has work best.

The next question they answer is about the edibility of siberian pea shrub. Paul’s experience is that they are too hard to eat and he has doubt about its quality as chicken feed.

The last question covered in this podcast is about preserving annuals. Paul, Jocelyn and Fred talk about canning, freezing, fermentation, and dehydration. Fred talks about his plan to try root cellaring in a clamp
