ZP felicitates 10 farmers for excellence in agriculture

KOLHAPUR: The zilla parishad on Friday presented 10 farmers the district-level Baliraja award for their efforts to increase soil quality and agricultural production in a ceremony held at the ZP hall. Vice president Shashikant Khot gave away the awards. The ZP had provided these farmers with agricultural assistance.
“We have been working to increase sales counters across the city for farmers’ produce. At present, we have a couple of counters at the ZP premises in Nagala Park, which received a good response since its launch last year, Our agriculture department will help farmers increase productivity of agricultural yield. We will also help them with marketing,” Khot said.
The ZP also promised farmers to allow the use of taluka-wise sales counters for women’s self-help groups. Avinash Subhedar the ZP chief executive officer said that these centres will start selling agricultural produce along with other items from these self-help groups.
“We need to promote more awareness about chemical fertilisers among farmers as excessive use is harmful. Kolhapur is one of the largest consumers of chemical fertilizers in the state,. Farmers should adopt organic farming wherever possible,” he said. Sambhaji Sawant, Sanjay Patil, Mahesh Dongale, Anandrao Matkar, Krishnat Jarag, Ilai Jamadar, Pramod Chougale, Sambhaji Bhosale, Vaijayanti Vaze and Rajkumar Admuthe were the recipients of the award. Last year, six farmers received the state-level Baliraja award for excellence in farming.
