Now you’re growing with gas

A BRISBANE inventor has developed an environmentally friendly, modular system of turning organic waste such as animal manure, fruit and vegetables into free energy that can be used for heating, electricity or as an engine fuel.

Ron Lakin has developed the BioBowser, a small scale biodigester that produces methane gas.

After the gas is extracted the leftover material can be used as a fertiliser, which can go straight back onto the farm or be sold at the farmgate.

Mr Lakin said large intensive farms in Australia, such as piggeries, had long been harvesting methane to use as an energy source.
