Farm briefs: World Expo in February, Oriental fruit fly alert

World Ag Expo >> During the World Ag Expo in Tulare in February, A.G. Kawamura, California’s former secretary of agriculture, will host a VIP lunch Feb. 12.

The event overall draws more than 100,000 people from 70 countries each year, 91 percent of them farmers, statistics from last year showed.

The lunch will be catered by Pardini’s of Fresno and will run from noon to 1 p.m. General seating tickets can be purchased online for $35 each, or you may purchase a reserved table for eight for $280. Admission to World Ag Expo is not required to gain admittance to the Farmers’ Lunch. Tickets online:

Oriental fruit fly >> A portion of Los Angeles County has been placed under quarantine for the Oriental fruit fly after nine adult flies were found in an unincorporated area of Los Angeles County near Inglewood. The quarantine zone in Los Angeles County measures 81 square miles. See a map
