Magdalena greenhouse gets kids growing produce

High school students in Magdalena are learning how to grow food, thanks to a program instituted in February by Superintendent Mike Chambers, working in concert with Deb Ingersoll of Green Girl LLC, which grows and sells certified organic produce in Magdalena.

At the Dec. 15 meeting, Chambers updated Magdalena School Board members on the success of the program which produces vegetables grown by students in the schools’ greenhouses for the cafeteria salad bar.

“In the state school system, we know we have the only solar-powered, organic-certified greenhouse in the state,” Chambers said. “But we also may be the only one in the entire nation.”
