Canadian farmers have come to value neonicotinoid insecticides precisely because of their efficacy, safety to applicators and favourable environmental profile.

To suggest Saskatchewan should react in a similar manner as Ontario proposes ignores at least three critical facts: sound science demonstrates neonicotinoid seed treatments are not responsible for honey bee colony health issues; while honey bees face health challenges the recent StatsCanada report on Production and Value of Honey states the number of beekeepers and colonies in Canada continues to increase; and prairie production agriculture is vastly different, primarily due to canola.
