SELF-SUFFICIENCY OUT, PERMACULTURE IN? By Veronica Smith BA – yangearthdog

I recently read a post that described Self-Sufficiency as “Isolationist” in comparison to Permaculture, which describes itself as “Community Based”.  The comment took me by surprise!  For the past four decades, I have been living “Self-Sufficiently” and frankly, I can’t see the difference between what I do and what Permaculture advocates.

For instance, Permaculture claims three core beliefs:

  1. Care for the Earth so that all life systems can survive and thrive because, without a healthy Earth, Humans cannot flourish.
  2. Care for the People so that everyone can access those resources needed for their existence.
