Agricultural Holocaust? – Coronado Eagle & Journal | Coronado News | Coronado Island News: Opinion

Franklin Roosevelt wrote, “The nation that destroys its soil destroys itself.” That would also be true of societies that poison the air and water as well, which is certainly happening world-wide these days. One example of this phenomena of air, water and soil destruction is in California’s San Joaquin Valley. The blended air pollution of cities, oil fields and farms results in this major American agricultural region having some of the nation’s dirtiest air. The nitrate contaminated drinking water and farmlands stripped of nutrients give rise to the question of whether current methods of conventional agriculture are a means of preservation or destruction for the human species.
