Spring’s the time to talk dirt with farmers

With planting season in sight, Ontario farmers are turning their attention to two matters: the weather, and their soil.The weather, they can’t do much about. Researchers at the University of Guelph and elsewhere breed crops to grow as fast as possible in our relatively short Canadian summers, to give farmers a leg up on the weather. If they get planted late because of rain or some other inclement condition, yields might suffer.
