Downtown Goats | chiconreviews

Every time I take my goat on a walk down an alley or to an East Side bar there will be a surge of attention from strangers and animals of all types.  No amount of pretension can retain someone from pulling themselves off the phone and doing a double take when they witness an “exotic” animal in a public or private place.  People’s reactions are usually a result of their recent internet browsing and/or experience with farm life as a child.  Either way there seems to be a cognitive dissonance between what is expected in an urban area and what is witnessed.  Pot-Bellied Pigs, Micro-Pigs, Tea Cup Pigs, Alpacas, Horses, Donkeys, Chickens, Sheep; you can name any barnyard inhabitant that you want, but the results are always the same:  people do not expect nor fully process farm animals in an urban environment.
