Believe it or not but, for 5 years I have had a three foot fence around my annual garden and it kept the chickens out. The deer, not so much, but I put dog hair in the corners to play that game.
I only have two of the original chickens left. Last summer I added three (we have a total of 10, now) new chickens- one turned out to be a rooster. The rooster discovered that it was not hard to jump the fence. Really? You can guess the rest. Soon, the whole flock was in the garden scratching away. It was the end of the season, so I was not that worried about it. So now, it is time to worry.
