At this time of year when queen bees are out and about looking for nesting sites, a favourite flower is the Pulmonaria or ‘lungwort’. The ‘Hairy-footed flower bee’ particularly likes Pulmonaria and it can often be seen hovering around the flowers.
The plant prefers some shade, but will be just as at home in a border, sheltering beneath some of the taller plants, under a tree or in a woodland garden. They are good trouble-free ground cover, they spread slowly and need little care.
