Gordon Waller, president of the Wisconsin Honey Producers Association, said he has talked to a lot of old-timers in the industry who say that last year in Wisconsin was the worst they have ever seen. It was also bad for Waller Apiaries near Augusta where he has kept bees for about 65 years.
“Some of the bees had so little honey down (in the hive) where they’re supposed to have it for winter that hundreds of them actually starved to death before winter, before we put the syrup bucket on to feed them,” Waller said. “They were that short of honey.”
