Gor­don Waller, pres­i­dent of the Wis­con­sin Honey Pro­duc­ers As­so­ci­a­tion, said he has talked to a lot of old-timers in the in­dus­try who say that last year in Wis­con­sin was the worst they have ever seen. It was also bad for Waller Api­aries near Au­gusta where he has kept bees for about 65 years.

“Some of the bees had so lit­tle honey down (in the hive) where they’re sup­posed to have it for win­ter that hun­dreds of them ac­tu­ally starved to death be­fore win­ter, be­fore we put the syrup bucket on to feed them,” Waller said. “They were that short of honey.”
