In my last post I mentioned my husband, Luke getting back into keeping honey bees. Luke had bees several years ago and kept them the typical, commercialized way. In a 10 frame Langstroth hive and large comb wax foundation because bigger is always better right? Well… not necessarily. In all the years we kept bees we only extracted honey once and only had bees over-winter once. It was very discouraging and very expensive. This time will be different, hopefully. We found a mentor who’s bees actually live more than one season, has very little problems with bee pests or diseases, and ergo uses no artificial chemicals or medications. And, it turns out good things just might come in smaller packages.
