Home bread making saw a revival in the 1970s. It faded through the 80s and 90s but is back this millennium!
Bread is a simple food. At its basic it contains, flour, water, salt and yeast. How these are combined, manipulated and baked leads to almost endless variation. Bread making is a craft so expect failures as well as triumphs.
As with all food, ingredients are critical. I have a grain mill and so can play with all aspects of the process. I started off with standard white plain flour and developed from there.
The act of bread making connects us to our cultural heritage. Each region of the bread eating world has its own variations, specialties and wonders. From the baguette of the French to black rye breads of eastern Europe.
Experiment, have fun and enjoy the fruits of your own labours.
